Long-period Pulsars as Possible Outcomes of Supernova Fallback Accretion

چکیده
Abstract For about half a century, the radio pulsar population was observed to spin in ∼0.002–12 s range, with different classes having spin-period evolution that differs substantially depending on their magnetic fields or past accretion history. The recent detection of several slowly rotating pulsars has reopened long-standing question exact physics, and observational biases, driving upper bound period range population. In this work, we perform parameter study interacting supernova fallback matter specifically look at disk scenario. Depending initial conditions formation, can differ from typical dipolar spin-down, resulting show periods longer than coeval peers. By using general assumptions for field birth, rates, including decay, find very long (≳100 s) be reached presence strong, magnetar-like (≳10 14 G) moderate rates (∼10 22 −10 27 g −1 ). addition, cases two recently discovered periodic sources, PSR J0901–4046 ( P = 75.9 transient GLEAM-X J162759.5–523504.3 1091 s), light our model. We conclude scenario could represent viable channel produce long-period isolated only observation campaigns are starting unveil.

Supernova Fallback: A Possible Site for the r-Process
The conditions for the leading r-process site candidate, neutrino-driven winds, can not be reproduced self-consistently in current supernova models. For that reason, we investigate an alternate model involving the mass ejected by fallback in a supernova explosion, through hydrodynamic and nucleosynthesis calculations. The nucleosynthetic products of this ejected material produces r-process elem...
متن کاملStability and Evolution of Supernova Fallback Disks
We show that thin accretion disks made of Carbon or Oxygen are subject to the same thermal ionization instability as Hydrogen and Helium disks. We argue that the instability applies to disks of any metal content. The relevance of the instability to supernova fallback disks probably means that their power-law evolution breaks down when they first become neutral. We construct simple analytical mo...
متن کاملWarped Disks as a Possible Origin of Torque Reversals in Accretion-Powered Pulsars
Enigmatic transitions between spin-up and spin-down have been observed in several X-ray pulsars accreting matter via an accretion disk. In these transitions, the torque changes sign but remains at nearly the same magnitude. It has been noted previously that alternating prograde and retrograde disk flows would explain many features of the torque reversals, although it has been unclear how a stab...
متن کاملNon - LTE modeling of supernova - fallback disks
We present a first detailed spectrum synthesis calculation of a supernova-fallback disk composed of iron. We assume a geometrically thin disk with a radial structure described by the classical α-disk model. The disk is represented by concentric rings radiating as planeparallel slabs. The vertical structure and emission spectrum of each ring is computed in a fully self-consistent manner by solvi...
